Junior Ranks Battle of Britain Dinner

The Junior Ranks Battle of Britain Dinner is an annual event held at MoD St Athan.  This years event took  place in the Junior Ranks Mess on 8 Sep 17 with all Phase 2 trainees attending.  Although this is a formal function it still retains a relaxed atmosphere in which the trainees can feel at ease whilst at the same time giving them an insight into a more formal side of Air Force life.  Throughout the night the trainees were served their meal by both Junior and Senior RAF members and civilian staff.  One of the attendees, Aircraftman Kelly, recalled his memories of the event:

“The event was really well planned and the selection of food available was really good.  What made it even more special was that Junior and Senior NCO’s and above waited on us throughout the night.  Senior men and women were seated on the Top Table along with the Commanding Officer, Wg Cdr Pescott which gave them a good opportunity to speak among themselves and to chat to the CO.

During the course of the evening several of the trainees were given the opportunity to present a speech not only to the other trainees but to the CO.  This allowed them to gain experience in public speaking and to present informative facts about the Battle of Britain which was of benefit to the audience.

Overall the evening was thoroughly enjoyable with good food, good company and lots of opportunity to speak to other course members”.
